Le harcèlement sexuel verbal (officieusement : «catcalling») en public n'est pas seulement irritant, c'est un comportement qui peut causer un préjudice psychologique aux victimes, entraînant des problèmes psychologiques tels qu'une baisse de l'estime de soi et un traumatisme. Ce type de comportement se produit souvent dans les espaces publics, les transports publics et dans la rue. Par conséquent, pour traduire en justice un plus grand nombre d'auteurs de ce type de harcèlement, il est nécessaire de créer une définition juridique (pénale) distincte pour le harcèlement sexuel verbal dans les espaces publics, comme cela a déjà été fait dans un certain nombre de pays européens tels que la France, la Belgique et le Portugal. Une telle disposition juridique devrait également être adoptée au Luxembourg afin d'offrir de meilleures voies de recours aux victimes de harcèlement sexuel en public. Verbal Sexual harassment (informally: 'catcalling') in public is not only irritating it is a behaviour which can cause psychological harm to the victims, causing psychological issues such as lower self-esteem and trauma. Such behaviour often occurs in public spaces, public transport and on the street. Therefore, to bring more perpetrators of such harassment to justice it is necessary to create a separate legal (criminal) definition for verbal sexual harassment in public spaces as has already been done in a number of European countries such as France, Belgium and Portugal. Such a legal provision should also be adopted in Luxembourg to provide better legal remedies for victims of sexual harassment in public.
