Title of the petition: Petition for safe cycling infrastructure in Luxembourg / Pétition pour une infrastructure cyclable sûre à Luxembourg

Aim of the petition: The objective of the petition is to encourage citizens to use alternative and green methods of transport. / L'objectif de la pétition est d'encourager les citoyens à utiliser des modes de transport alternatifs et écologiques.

Motivation of the general interest of the petition: According to a study, published by the American company Inrix, people in Luxembourg spent on average 33 hours in traffic jams in 2016. This is also due to a high number of workers travelling from neighborhood countries every day.

However, citizens living in Luxembourg have an opportunity to use alternative methods of transport to and from work, such as public buses, tram, electric scooters and bicycles. Current conditions for cycling are unfortunately very unsafe (lack of cycling paths, except in Kirchberg), which means that cyclists are forced to drive on the road during heavy traffic, which presents a grave danger for serious accidents every day.

Since the infrastructure currently doesn’t provide conditions to safely cycle to and from work, I am on behalf of Luxembourg citizens therefore petitioning to build safe cycling infrastructure over in Luxembourg country. The goal is to connect the communes and suburban areas and to encourage people to start cycling to work and their daily obligations. Moreover, a good cycling infrastructure would encourage people to include exercise in their busy daily routines, which would then also result in better public health, less traffic and cleaner air. /

Selon une étude publiée par la société américaine Inrix, les Luxembourgeois ont passé en moyenne 33 heures dans les embouteillages en 2016. Cela s'explique également par le nombre élevé de travailleurs voyageant chaque jour des pays voisins.

Toutefois, les citoyens vivant au Luxembourg ont la possibilité d'utiliser d'autres moyens de transport pour se rendre au travail, tels que les bus publics, le tramway, les scooters électriques et les vélos. Les conditions actuelles pour le cyclisme sont malheureusement très dangereuses (manque de pistes cyclables, sauf à Kirchberg), ce qui oblige les cyclistes à conduire sur des routes très fréquentées, ce qui présente un grave danger d'accidents graves tous les jours.

Étant donné que l’infrastructure ne fournit pas actuellement les conditions nécessaires pour se rendre au travail en toute sécurité, je suis au nom des citoyens luxembourgeois et demande donc la construction d’une infrastructure cyclable sûre dans le pays luxembourgeois. L’objectif est de relier les communes et les banlieues et d’encourager les gens à se rendre au travail à vélo et à s’acquitter de leurs obligations quotidiennes. De plus, une bonne infrastructure cyclable encouragerait les gens à faire de l'exercice dans leurs activités quotidiennes très chargées, ce qui se traduirait également par une meilleure santé publique, une circulation moins dense et un air plus pur.
